Grenoble is the nearest city, about 40 miles from La Grave (about a 1.5 hour drive, depending on road conditions). The road is narrow, windy, and scenic.
You can fly in to Geneva, Switzerland, Paris, Nice, or Lyon France. From any of these locations, you can take a train or bus to Grenoble, France.
For train schedules go to http://www.sncf.fr and click “En regions.” The region for Grenoble is “Rhone-Alps.”

If you choose to spend some time in Grenoble, there is plenty to do. The public transportation in Grenoble is easy and set up well for tourists. If you will spend the day in Grenoble, we advise checking your luggage at a hotel (rent a room). Do not leave your luggage unattended! If you would like to arrange this, and split the costs with other clients, please contact us at least two weeks in advance and we can book a room across the street from the train station for you. This is a good option for using the shower or relaxing after your long trip.
Getting to La Grave from Grenoble
We will offer transportation to and from the Grenoble train station for 50 euros each way every Saturday. Please arrange this with us at least two weeks in advance for this shuttle service. Pickup times are generally at 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm on Saturday. If you choose to arrive in La Grave before Saturday, contact us about other options. We will help you get to La Grave from Grenoble.
There is a bus service to La Grave for about 30 euros. This bus goes to Briancon with a stop in La Grave. This is the least expensive way to travel to La Grave. It only leaves once a day at about 8:00 am. There are more frequent departure times offered from Grenoble to a nearby town. We can provide transportation to La Grave from that location if you contact us at least two weeks in advance to arrange a pick up from us. The bus returns from La Grave to Grenoble at about 4:00 pm -- a good option for returning to Grenoble. The bus takes about an hour and 15 minutes, depending on the traffic.
There is a taxi service in La Grave which offers pickups in Grenoble at the time of your choice. This is the most expensive but most convenient option if you want to get to La Grave before our shuttle on Saturday.
If you don’t speak French, it may be difficult to communicate with them, so contact us at least two weeks in advance and we can make taxi pickup arrangements for you.
